The Blue Ridge Jumbos are our line of Jumbo Coturnix Quail and are named after our incredible mountains, here in Western North Carolina!
These guys are HUGE and produce HUGE eggs! Some jumbos are known for their egg size, others for their weight, but we wanted both!
The females can reach nearly a pound (15+ oz) and the males are a bit smaller (as is normal for quail) right around 12.5 oz. This is a Big difference from our standard sized Celadon Quail who average around 8-9 oz each.
We hope you all love them as much as we have!
Another HUGE benefit of the jumbos… They are feather sexable by 4 weeks old, so no needing to wait until full maturity to do vent sexing. When ordering, feel free mix and match the Jumbos with our Celadon quail because they can ship together!
Easy To Care For
Quail need a slightly different setup than chickens; they do really well in little “quail-tractors” or a rabbit-hutch style houses. They do not roost, but rather, like to have a small shelter on the ground to sleep and lay their eggs in. They are amazingly cold hardy and lay more than our chickens! During the laying season they lay 1 egg nearly every day, and will lay 300+ eggs per year if given supplemental lighting in the winter.

Quail Eggs are a Superfood
Their eggs are tiny and PACKED with nutrients. They are a great low-calorie, protein-rich food. They are creamy and delicious, and cannot carry salmonella, so can safely be eaten raw. The health benefits of quail eggs include their ability to improve vision and immunity, boost energy levels, reduce inflammation, and stimulate growth and repair in the body. Quail eggs also help to boost metabolism, reduce blood pressure, and soothe allergies, among others! Click over to our blog post all about the nutrition-packed quail eggs, here.
Perfect for the Homestead
Who doesn’t need a few quail in their life?! They are tiny little packages that pack a nutritional punch! The males’ crow is a soft trill, like a song-bird, and so, many urban families who cannot have roosters, opt for a few backyard quail. We think you will love their sweet, quirky little personalities as much as we have!
